I'm a Vietnamese with zero experience with Romance language, and I'm trying to learn Portuguese in 2 weeks so that I can use it on my trip to Portugal. I don't have any serious reason to learn the language, heck, I don't even have any exposure to any Romance languages before, I just decided it on a whim after I booked my trip to the country. Like "if I will be surrounded by Portuguese for a whole week, why not learn the languge? "
Vietnamese is also a tonal language (6 tones) with dead simple grammar (no gender, no tenses, verbs only have one form). Thai is also easily mistaken as Vietnamese if heard from afar, despite that 2 quite a different origin.
