OMG. This is amazing. Is it acceptable for grown-ups to say it, or is it just for kids? Or is it like slang? This is what I'm worried about: that I'll be at a fancy business meeting in Lithuania and will say something like "excuse me, I need to visit the gnomes" and people will look at me funny.
I loved this. Bathroom is the first word I look up when I travel. In the U.S., we try to make sure you don't think we have to do anything biological in the "bathroom," so we would never call it a toilet -- even bathroom is meh. Instead, it's ladies room. My grandmother's era it was powder room.
(And I think that is a lovely meal for every day.)
As a dual citizen living in Canada, I love the American's quip about washing your clothes in a restaurant. Spanish-speaking countries also have an array of words for "bathroom," and it's easy to get confused.
In Lithuanian, the cutesy way of saying "to go to the bathroom" is literally "to visit the gnomes". Thought you might find it funny.

In a super formal environment, you'd probably just say "going to the toilet", but if it's your colleagues, you would easily get away with it.
Got it!
Hilarious! As usual:)

That's hilarious. In Hebrew, Israelis just say "I need to poop." No secrets from strangers here 🤣

So many cultures do! It's like, most languages just can't decide what to call this place 🤣
And how much was the room? 😆 Btw. I saw a really good film last year at a movie festival in Poland: An Orange from Jaffa https://www.europeanfilmacademy.org/an-orange-from-jaffa-short-film/
It wasn't even that cheap - nearly $70 per night 🫣 This is Tel Aviv.....
I just googled it, and it looks like there is! One version is made with cashew cheese. I think nearly everything has a vegan version these days.
Ah, wow, I didn’t even know that this is what it’s called!
